My recent accident on the ice-laden footpath during my daily walk has brought to light an old necessity.

When I was a kid, I did some training in first aid with both the Boy Scouts and the St. Johns Ambulance Brigade. These were clubs like any other held at my school in the evenings.

The knowledge and self-sufficiency gained from that training has stood me in good stead throughout my adult life.
